A construction party!

(With pictures, for tante Z!)

What are the ingredients for a successful 4th birthday construction party?
4 good friends and their parents

1 grandmother who spent hours helping clean, slicing vegetables and making a beautiful kliņģeris, the Latvian birthday bread

Caution tape and a giant crane for a centerpiece (not to mention orange, yellow and black streamers

Hardhats and a few orange cones for games in the backyard

One construction cake, complete with edible rocks and an excavator digging in the mud

But most importantly, balloons. When we asked Lauris what his favorite part of the party was, the answer was dīdīšanās ar baloniem, or playing with balloons. The kids had a blast watching them get blown up, let loose and bounced around the living room full of grownups willing to play keep-away.
It was so much fun choosing toys with Lauris that he wanted to share with his friends. We converted the train table to a lego table for some construction fun, and all the appropriately themed books and toys were scattered through the house. A fun take home gift was a canvas work apron with flashlight and measuring tape tucked inside, and little brother and the guests really got into the theme with construction attire and gifts. It was a pleasure to be able to share the fun with our friends and family; now to prepare for onkulis Andrejs and tante Anna’s arrival!

    1. Thanks Betsy, Birthdays never used to be a big deal until the boys came along. The best part is, the planning and baking is as much fun for me as the party is for the boys... win/win!
